BNL to host free workshop to help parents support student success

BEDFORD — Bedford North Lawrence High School will host a free workshop designed to help parents, guardians and caregivers support their children’s success in school.

“Preparing Kids for Success” will provide parents and caregivers of North Lawrence Community Schools and Bedford North Lawrence students with practical strategies they can use at home to help their children improve school performance, complete assignments on time and attend school regularly.

The workshop will also include a PowerSchool Parent Portal demonstration. During the demonstration, BNL staff will show parents and caregivers how to access the portal, check their child’s overall grades and view individual assignment grades. The goal is to give families another tool for staying informed about their child’s progress and strengthening communication between home and school.

Participants will learn strategies and ideas for:

  • Helping children get to school regularly and on time.
  • Improving communication between home and school.
  • Improving overall school performance.
  • Using homework assignment sheets and online homework information systems.
  • Creating routines and structures that help children succeed.
  • Recognizing and understanding signs of trauma.
  • Rekindling hopes, dreams, and goals for their children’s futures.

The workshop will focus on giving families practical tools they can use beyond the classroom. Organizers hope the event will help parents and caregivers better understand how their involvement, encouragement, and communication can make a difference in a child’s educational experience.

Free childcare will also be available for students in kindergarten through sixth grade. Childcare will be provided by NLCS staff members, allowing parents and caregivers to participate in the workshop while their younger children are supervised.

Registration is required to attend the workshop. Those interested should complete the pre-registration form and wait to be contacted with additional information.
