SHOALS — As part of the annual Shoals Harvest Fest, the Shoals Elementary, Jr. High, and High School Beta Clubs will host the “Chalk & Chills” River Run 5K on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026.
Led by club sponsor Kallie Fuhrman, the colorful evening run and walk invites community members of all ages to support local student leadership initiatives while enjoying a festive, autumn-themed 3.10-mile course along the East Fork of the White River.
Event Schedule & Location
The event starts and finishes at The Star Mill, located at 117 Water St. in Shoals.
- 4:00 p.m.: Check-in and registration open WEBP
- 4:45 p.m.: Welcome, safety briefing, and warm-up WEBP
- 5:00 p.m.: 5K race steps off WEBP
- 5:45 p.m.: Finish line “Color Blast” WEBP
- 6:00 p.m.: Awards ceremony WEBP
- 6:15 p.m.: Music, concessions, and photo opportunities WEBP
Scenic Out-and-Back Route
Participants will run or walk along Spout Springs Road, taking in views of the White River, towering bluffs, and local landmarks. The route passes the entrance to the Bluffs of Beaver Bend Nature Preserve before turning around at the Nubbin Ridge Trailhead parking lot to return to The Star Mill.
Along the way, runners will pass through five Halloween-themed powder stations—including Witch’s Way (purple), Pumpkin Patch (orange), Ghostly Crossing (white), Monster Mash (green), and Zombie Zone (pink)—ending with a grand color blast at the finish line. A no-chalk option is also available for participants who prefer to skip the powder.

Proceeds from the event directly benefit the Shoals Elementary, Jr. High, and High School Beta Clubs.
- Ages 5 & Under: Free (registration required)
- Ages 6–12: $15
- Ages 13 & Older: $25 ($10 late/race-day fee applies)
- Optional Event T-Shirt: $5 add-on
Prizes will be awarded to the top overall male and female finishers, as well as top runners across multiple age divisions: Elementary (K–5), Jr. High (6–8), High School (9–12), and Adult (19+). Strollers are welcome on the course; however, pets are not permitted.
