Purdue Extension to offer Free Nutrition Made Easy Program in Austin

AUSTIN — Learning how to prepare healthy meals does not have to be complicated or expensive. Purdue Extension – Scott County is offering a free six-session program designed to help individuals and families feel more confident in the kitchen.

Nutrition Made Easy will begin Wednesday, September 16, and continue each Wednesday through October 21. Sessions will be held from noon to 2 p.m. at Grace Covenant Church, 75 W. Main St. in Austin.

The program is designed for anyone who struggles with knowing what to eat, how to prepare healthy meals, or how to make nutritious choices for themselves and their families.

Over the course of six sessions, participants will learn about nutrition and practical food preparation skills. The program will also include hands-on instruction in cooking with an air fryer and using an Instant Pot.

Participants will receive a meal kit containing ingredients and a recipe at each session, giving them an opportunity to put what they learn into practice at home.

The six sessions will be held on:

  • Wednesday, Sept. 16
  • Wednesday, Sept. 23
  • Wednesday, Sept. 30
  • Wednesday, Oct. 7
  • Wednesday, Oct. 14
  • Wednesday, Oct. 21

The program is free and open to everyone, thanks to a grant from Purdue Extension Community Vitality.

There is also an added incentive for participants who make the commitment to attend. Anyone who attends at least five of the six sessions will receive an air fryer at the final session.

Pre-registration is required to participate in the program.

Those interested can register online at the provided Purdue Extension registration page. Anyone who needs assistance with registration can contact Megan Brough at 812-752-8450 or mcbrough@purdue.edu.

With free instruction, meal kits and practical cooking tips, Nutrition Made Easy offers Scott County residents an opportunity to build healthier habits while gaining skills they can use in their own kitchens.
