The Beach Boys cancel Indiana State Fair opening night show to ‘recharge’

INDIANAPOLIS — Legendary rock band The Beach Boys have abruptly canceled a slew of summer tour dates to take a break and “recharge,” forcing the cancellation of their highly anticipated opening-night performance at the 2026 Indiana State Fair.

The Beach Boys

The Hall of Fame group was originally scheduled to kick off the fair’s entertainment lineup on the Hoosier Lottery Free Stage on Friday, August 7, 2026. However, the band announced it is pausing all live shows between late July and September 3.

Band Issues Statement, Eyes 2027 Return

In an official statement released by the band, members explained that the pause is necessary to maintain their momentum during a major milestone year:

“Playing for you is the highlight of our summer every year — especially as we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States while saluting the 60th Anniversary of Pet Sounds,” the band shared. “We’ve been having a blast out there, and to keep the good vibrations going strong, we’ll be taking a short break to recharge before getting back on the road. VIP tickets for the performance at the Indiana State Fair will be fully refunded at the original point of purchase. Thanks for your understanding — we can’t wait to see you back out there next August!”

Fair officials expressed optimism that the group will return to the Hoosier Lottery Free Stage in 2027 to perform iconic hits from their seminal 1966 album Pet Sounds, including “God Only Knows,” “Wouldn’t It Be Nice,” and “Sloop John B.”

What Ticket Holders Need to Know

While admission to the Hoosier Lottery Free Stage is included with general fair entry, fans who bought upgraded seating are eligible for direct compensation:

  • Refunds: All Premium Reserved Seating and VIP ticket packages purchased for the August 7 show will be automatically refunded at the original point of purchase.
  • Replacement Act Pending: State Fair organizers confirmed that a new opening-night concert to replace The Beach Boys on the Free Stage will be announced soon.

A Nationwide Tour Pause

The Indiana State Fair is not the only stop impacted by the hiatus. The Beach Boys canceled dozens of dates on their Endless Summer Gold tour across the country, including major appearances at state fairs and venues in Wisconsin, Oregon, Alaska, Colorado, and New York.

The band expects to resume its full touring schedule in September.
