Morning Tribute for Local Veterans
The holiday festivities ignite early in the morning with a dedicated tribute to the region’s military community. At 7:30 a.m., a formal flag-raising ceremony will take place outside the local Golden Corral restaurant.
Immediately following the colors being presented, all area veterans are invited inside to enjoy a completely free breakfast buffet. The annual complimentary meal is funded and provided directly by Golden Corral owner Bobby Hunter as a personal token of appreciation for local military service.
F-16 Flyover and an 18-Ton Heritage Monument
The main downtown events kick off precisely at 11:30 a.m. with a thundering aerial display. Two F-16 Fighting Falcons originating from the Indiana Air National Guard’s famed 122nd Fighter Wing (The “Blacksnakes”) are scheduled to execute a low-altitude precision flyover directly above the downtown square.

“On behalf of the Lawrence County America 250 committee, I had the privilege of speaking with the F-16 pilot this afternoon, and we’re excited to share a preview of Saturday’s Independence Day flyover,” said Judge Nathan Nikirk.
The F-16 will approach from the west at Noon, flying along 16th Street before making a thrilling pass directly over the America 250 Parade route and the Lawrence County Courthouse. If you’re attending the parade, keep an eye to the west as you hear the aircraft approaching.
“This flyover is a powerful tribute to the 250th anniversary of our nation’s founding and is dedicated to the men and women who have served, and continue to serve, in the United States Armed Forces,” Judge Nikirk added. “A very special thank you to the 122nd Fighter Wing of the Indiana Air National Guard for helping make this special tribute possible. I also want to thank U.S. Senator Jim Banks and State Senator Eric Koch for helping the committee secure the flyover.”
Judge Nikirk added, “If you have a small American flag, bring it with you and wave it proudly during the F-16 flyover. The pilot will be able to see the flags below, making this patriotic tribute even more meaningful. Let’s show our appreciation for our country, our military, and our veterans with a sea of red, white, and blue!”
Simultaneously, a ceremonial flag-raising will take place over the square, made possible through crane equipment and logistics provided by Mikel’s Signs.
At noon, the annual Independence Day Parade will step off, utilizing its traditional downtown loop. This year’s procession features a jaw-dropping structural addition that pays homage to the “Limestone Capital of the World.”

The parade will be anchored by a towering, custom-carved Indiana limestone “America 250” Obelisk. The colossal monument stands 20 feet tall and weighs a massive 36,000 pounds (18 tons). Following closely behind this heavy-stone display will be the 2026 Parade Grand Marshal, Lawrence Circuit Court Judge Nathan Nikirk.

Organizers promise a historic, high-caliber hometown presentation behind the Grand Marshal, featuring elaborately designed floats, vintage classic cars, and marching groups representing dozens of Lawrence County civic organizations.
The Courthouse Transformation

The Lawrence County Courthouse lawn and facility will serve as the visual epicenter of the semiquincentennial. Visitors can look forward to two major patriotic installations:
- The Rooftop Flags: A unique, precision aerial display featuring 50 American flags aligned to perfectly frame the courthouse roofline. The extensive collection of roof flags was purchased and donated to the county directly by Judge Nikirk and his family.
- The Celebration Banner: Bedford Revitalization, Inc. (BRI) has commissioned and donated a massive, specialized “America 250” celebration flag, which will be prominently displayed as a permanent backdrop on the courthouse property throughout the weekend.
Dusk Fireworks at Wilson Park
After a full afternoon of downtown street vendors, historic displays, and community gatherings, the city’s semiquincentennial events will shift north.

The day’s events will officially conclude at dusk inside Wilson Park with the highly anticipated America 250 Fireworks Spectacular. Pyrotechnic engineers have designed a heavily expanded, coordinated aerial display packed with specialized shells to cap off this historic summer celebration.
Spectators are encouraged to arrive at the park early with lawn chairs and blankets, as traffic restrictions and high attendance are expected around the perimeter of the park leading up to dark.
