City of Mitchell announces Independence Day Fireworks Display at Lehigh Field

MITCHELL — Independence Day celebrations in Lawrence County are officially taking shape as the City of Mitchell finalizes plans for its annual community fireworks display.

According to the officials, the city will host its public fireworks celebration on Friday, July 3, 2026. The high-flying pyrotechnic display will take place at Lehigh Field, with the launch scheduled to begin at dusk.

To add to the festive atmosphere, WQRK 105.5 Southern Indiana’s Classic Hits will provide entertainment, community updates, and a classic-hits soundtrack to accompany families as they set up their lawn chairs and blankets ahead of the show. Be sure to stop by their tent to get your free pair of 3D Fireworks Glasses brought to you by Air Master Heating and Air Conditioning.

Celebrating on the Friday evening of July 3rd has become a favored tradition in Mitchell, allowing local families to enjoy a dedicated community display before national and regional July 4th holiday events take place the following day.

Spectators planning to attend the event are encouraged to keep several safety and logistical considerations in mind:

  • Seating and Arrival: Attendees are advised to arrive early at Lehigh Field to secure parking and prime viewing spots on the grass. Bringing lawn chairs, picnic blankets, and flashlights for post-show navigation is highly recommended.
  • Weather Awareness: As with all outdoor pyrotechnic events, the display depends on favorable weather conditions. Municipal officials and emergency personnel will monitor wind speeds and potential storm fronts leading up to dusk.
  • Pet Safety Warning: Given the loud, unpredictable booms associated with professional fireworks displays, pet owners are strongly urged to leave animals safely at home in a secure, indoor environment to prevent noise-induced panic and runaway incidents.
