MITCHELL – The Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence County has announced that enrollment is now open for its Mitchell Summer Learning Labs, a free, high-quality academic and enrichment program designed to support student growth over the summer. Building on past success in other Indiana areas, the program is expanding to include Lawrence County.
Each day from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., students will receive 90 minutes of literacy instruction and 75 minutes of math instruction, led by licensed teachers with Club staff present as teacher’s aides. The afternoon session, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., will offer traditional Club programs where youth can engage in fun activities such as Art, STEM, Games, Gym, and more.
The daily schedule includes drop-off from 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., breakfast from 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., Summer Learning Labs from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., lunch and Club programs from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., and pick-up from 4:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.. Pick-up is also available any time after 12:00 p.m.; however, mornings require adherence to attendance requirements.
Summer Learning Labs are available to students who will be in 1st through 7th grade in the upcoming 2025-2026 school year, meaning they are completing Kindergarten through 6th grade in the current 2024-2025 school year. The program is free for Mitchell Summer Learning Lab participants. Mitchell Club members are also eligible for free enrollment.
For the free program to continue, which is supported through MindTrust funding, an 80% attendance rate is required. Regular attendance is considered critical to students’ success.
For those not interested in the Summer Learning Labs, the Club’s regular Summer Camp at the Limestone Unit will be open for $60 per week, from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. However, enrollment in the Mitchell Summer Learning Labs does not automatically include access to this regular summer camp.
