His last day will be Friday, May 3.

Dorsett has served the city of Bedford for twenty-two years. He spent nineteen years as the recreation director and a year as a city water treatment operator.

The Board recognized and thanked Dorsett for his service to the city.

“We appreciate everything Gary has done for the Parks Department and the City of Bedford,” added Jimmy Jones, Park Director. “He has always gone above and beyond.”

The Parks Department will celebrate Dorsett’s retirement with an event at Wilson Park at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 2.

Dorsett shared that the job was a team effort.

“This job has been a blessing to me and my family,” added Dorsett. “I couldn’t have done this job without the tremendous hard work and support of the Parks Department staff. They are a hard house to beat and have been doing it for years. They will keep on going after I leave.”

Dorsett said he will still dedicate his time to the City of Bedford and the Parks Department.

“You will see me around,” he added. “I am not going anywhere. I plan on working out at the golf course, umpiring, working during the pickleball season, and donating my time to special Park Department events. It is hard to miss Santa House.”
