Bedford Recreational Director shares upcoming events

BEDFORD – Recreational Director Gary Dorsett gave his report on upcoming events at Tuesday’s Bedford Parks Department meeting.

Dorsett told the board that the deadline to join adult softball is Friday, April 19th, at 4 p.m.

“We have a few teams registered, but we will have a bunch come in at the last hour,” Dorsett added. “I am hoping for a good season.”

He also informed the board that pickleball leagues have started, with 40 teams registered in six divisions.

“We will always have some courts open for public use,” added Dorsett. “The sports keeps growing, which is a good thing.”

Dorsett announced that Arbor Day at Community Gardens would be celebrated on April 26th at 10 a.m. This will be Bedford’s 32nd year as a Tree City USA.

“Being a Tree City USA is a pretty big deal for the city,” added Dorsett.

A ‘Trash-N-Treasure’ event will be held at Thornton Park on April 27th. Parking will be $10.00
per two spots.

“If you have extra goods you want to get rid of, this is the place to do it,” added Dorsett.

DNR Director of Urban Forestry Jacob Roos will be the speaker of the Park Outdoor Series on April 30th. His speech is titled “How To Take Care Of Your Trees.” The speech is at 6 p.m. at the Bath House.

On April 24th, there will be a Louisville Baseball Game at 11 a.m. The cost is $25.00 a person, and they will depart at 8:30 a.m.. The deadline to sign up is April 22nd.

This was Gary Dorsett’s last report as Recreational Director. He is retiring. His last day will be Friday, May 3.
