Orleans residents in need have a new resource for food assistance

ORLEANS – Orleans residents in need have a new resource for food assistance.

The Orleans Food Pantry grand opening is Thursday, January 18, from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. at 422 South Third Street in Orleans.

Community partners will attend and speak. Families who can provide proof of Orleans School District residency will receive a food box.

Regular pantry operating hours will be 10:00 a.m. until Noon and from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.

Sponsored by the Orleans Area Ministerial Association and Team OC, the pantry is launching with support from the Orange County Community Foundation, Duke Energy, and the United Way of South Central Indiana.

“We want to help make sure that families visiting the pantry have access to basic staples,” said Liz Irwin, Duke Energy government and community relations manager. “Groups such as the Orleans Area Ministerial Association provide such an important service to the county and we’re glad to join with others supporting them.”

Duke Energy representatives also will be on-site to offer information on electric bill management programs, energy assistance funds, and energy efficiency programs.

Duke Energy Indiana, a subsidiary of Duke Energy, provides about 6,300 megawatts of owned electric capacity to approximately 890,000 customers in a 23,000-square-mile service area, making it Indiana’s largest electric supplier.
