Friends of Spring Mill awarded $3,000 surprise grant

LAWRENCE CO. – The Lawrence County Community Foundation awarded its 7th surprise grant last week to Friends of Spring Mill, an organization of volunteers dedicated to conserving and restoring Spring Mill State Park.

The organization consists of less than 50 members who volunteer their time to benefit the park.

The LCCF awarded them one of the ten surprise grants it had pledged to give out in honor of its 30th Anniversary in mid-October.

Rowena Cross-Najafi accepted the surprise grant on behalf of the Friends of Spring Mill State Park. Crystal Flinn, CFP Grants Coordinator; Michelle Zollman and Jo Ann Ash, LCCF Board members, are presenting the grant.

On October 19, at the foundation’s 30th anniversary dinner, the LCCF announced its intention to award ten surprise grants totaling $30,000.

Each grant is $3,000; the first was awarded to the White River Humane Society on the evening of the dinner. Bertha’s Mission, Little Theater of Bedford, the Mitchell Community Public Library, the Mitchell Public Library, the Mitchell Parks Department, and now the Friends of Spring Mill have all been recipients of the surprise grants.

With seven grants presented, the LCCF has three remaining $3,000 to award in the coming days, which is $9,000 for other community organizations.

In total, the grants will amount to $30,000, representing the 30 years of service the LCCF has provided for the Lawrence County Community.
