BEDFORD – Bedford North Lawrence senior Karsyn Norman has been named one of five finalists for the coveted Miss Basketball award.

Norman, destined for Butler, averaged 15.5 points, 4.2 assists and 4.2 rebounds per game while leading the Stars (27-3) to the Class 4A state championship. She scored a career-high 37 points against Columbus East and finished as BNL’s career leader in assists while totaling 1,329 career points.

“It kind of surprised me but made me really happy,” Norman said. “They’re all really talented girls, really nice girls. It’s just a good group to be a part of.”

The other finalists include Zionsville’s Laila Hull (a North Carolina recruit who averaged 22 points and 8 rebounds this season), South Bend Washington’s Rashunda Jones (headed to Purdue after averaging 19.7 points and 4.6 assists), South Bend Washington’s Amiyah Reynolds (a Maryland recruit who totaled 15.2 points and 8.1 rebounds before suffering a season-ending foot injury), and Forest Park’s Amber Tretter (Miami, Oh. recruit who led the Rangers to the 2A state title while averaging 15.8 points and 9 rebounds).

“Of course, I’ve dreamt of this,” Norman said. “The state title was the most important dream, but Miss Basketball is really great. Every girls dreams of that. I’ve tried not to think about it too much to get my hopes up. Whatever happens, it happens.”

BNL’s previous Miss Basketball winners include Marla Inman (1992) and Jorie Allen (2019).

The winner will be announced next week.
