IERA: Tips for renters on recertification

INDIANA – Renters in Indiana may qualify for up to 15 months of rental assistance through the Indiana Emergency Rental Assistance Program (IERA) if they’ve been impacted by COVID-19 and meet other program eligibility criteria. This assistance can provide up to three months at a time for forward-facing rent as well as back rent owed. For renters who have already received assistance through IERA, it may be time to recertify for an additional three months of assistance.

IERA recipients should not fill out a new application, they just need to recertify through their initial application.  An auto-generated message will be sent to them using the email address they provided with their initial application. We encourage IERA recipients to check their email frequently, including their spam folder. Recertification emails are sent on or around the 15th of the last month assistance has already been provided. The best way to ensure quick and efficient continued assistance is to frequently check your email and act on any emails from the IERA team and provide necessary documents.

Example: If someone received assistance from IERA which paid their rent through February, they will receive an email in mid-February to recertify for additional assistance. They will only be eligible to recertify if they have not yet received 15 months of assistance. If you need help paying your rent and have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, apply to IERA by visiting IndianaHousingNow.org or call 2-1-1.
