Mitchell Community Schools announce e-learning schedule for this week

MITCHELL – Mitchell Community Schools announced on the district’s website, that it will switch to an e-learning format that is set to begin tomorrow, January 18th through Friday, January 21st.

Superintendent Dr. Brent Comer

The announcement from Superintendent Dr. Brent Comer, shared the concern of the safety and health of the students and faculty due to “rapid rises in our COVID-19 related data which includes student and staff absenteeism, number of positive cases among our students and staff, as well as the growth in quarantine numbers.”

Extra-curricular events and practices, including varsity basketball, scheduled from January 13th through January 21st will be rescheduled to the best of both school’s ability.

The move to e-learning was determined the safest response to the rapid increase in cases in the school system, and was not taken lightly according to Comer.

“After keeping a close eye on the rapidly changing data this week, continued consultation with Lawrence County Health Officials, and MCS administration, moving to a four day eLearning period is the best option for our students, staff, and community,” said Comer.

Students are anticipated to return to in-person learning on Jan. 24 and will follow the new CDC guidelines upon their return to the school buildings.
