Body of missing Wabash River boater recovered

VERMILLION CO. – At 10:02 a.m. Sunday morning, Indiana Conservation Officers recovered the body of 64-year-old Terry L. Evans from the Wabash River in the area where his capsized boat was first discovered.

His family has been notified. An exact cause of death is pending autopsy results.

Evans of Danville, Illinois, boat capsized near the Duke Energy Plant in Vermillion County.  

Friday, at approximately 2:45 p.m., a Duke Energy employee contacted 911 after observing an overturned boat near a low head dam which is located on a feeder creek along the Wabash River. 

Indiana Conservation Officers responded and began searching the area with sonar and divers below the dam.  

Other responding agencies included the Vermillion County Sheriff’s Department, Cayuga Town Marshal’s, Cayuga Volunteer Fire Department, and Illiana Emergency Medical Services.
