Superior STEAM 4-H Club to host Final FIRST LEGO League Scrimmage at Sherwood Oaks Christian Church

BEDFORD — The 4-H Club Superior STEAM is preparing to host its final FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Scrimmage this coming Saturday, October 24, at Sherwood Oaks Christian Church’s Bedford Campus, located at 508 Fellowship Drive.

The event marks a bittersweet milestone as LEGO Education concludes its nearly 30-year partnership with FIRST Robotics, making this the final year for the cooperative program.

For the past five years, the scrimmage has provided a welcoming, low-pressure environment for FLL teams—some traveling from as far as Terre Haute—to practice in a competitive setting without the stress of advancing their season. Instead, the focus remains on learning, collaboration, and receiving valuable feedback.

Core Teams and Community Participation

This year’s scrimmage features 12 core teams from Bedford and Bloomington, alongside visiting participants from Elletsville and Terre Haute:

  • Limestone Robotics 4-H Club: The Thunderbots and Nanobots
  • St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School: The Epic Followers of Chuck Norris
  • Roboboosters 501c3 (Bloomington): The Harvey Hawkbots, Circuit Breakers, and Bloombots
  • Superior STEAM Host Teams: The Robotillers, STEAMRollers, Brazilian Flying Squirrels, Lizard Wizardz, Krazy Kats, and Awesome Pozzum Pickles

Superior STEAM expressed deep gratitude to participating teams, Sherwood Oaks Christian Church for providing the venue and production equipment, and their former venue, the Boys and Girls Club of Lawrence County, for helping launch the event years ago.

The 2026 Theme: “Bioglow” and Biodiversity

The 2026 FLL challenge centers around biodiversity under the theme “Bioglow”. Teams are tasked with designing and building autonomous robots to complete specific rainforest-inspired missions on a specialized game table, as well as researching and developing innovative solutions to real-world ecological problems.

The day’s schedule begins with morning judging presentations (closed to spectators), followed by open robot matches for the public starting after 12:00 PM.

For those unable to attend in person, a live stream will be broadcast on Superior STEAM’s official Facebook and YouTube pages, utilizing equipment provided by Sherwood Oaks Christian Church.
