ORLEANS — The Orleans Street Department has announced that its annual fire hydrant flushing is tentatively scheduled for October 26 through October 30.
The routine maintenance process is vital for ensuring the town’s water distribution system operates properly and remains safe for residents.

During the flushing period, local water customers may experience temporary changes in their water service. Municipal officials advise that residents may notice a temporary drop in water pressure as well as slight water discoloration.
Resident Recommendations & Tips
Town officials recommend taking the following precautions while flushing is underway:
- Laundry Caution: Residents are advised to avoid doing laundry during the flushing window (Oct. 26–30) to prevent potential staining of clothing from discolored water.
- Clearing Discolored Water: If discoloration occurs at your home or business, simply open your cold water tap and let it run until the water flows clear.
Town officials expressed their gratitude to residents for their patience and cooperation as municipal crews work to maintain the community’s water infrastructure.
