AT&T data breach settlement receives final approval: Here is when to expect your payout

DALLAS — If you submitted a claim in the AT&T data breach class action lawsuit before the December 2025 cutoff, your payout is moving forward. A federal judge granted final approval to the $177 million settlement on October 2, paving the way for millions of affected customers to receive cash distributions.

The landmark agreement resolves two separate massive data security incidents disclosed by AT&T in 2024:

  • March 2024 Breach: Exposed personal sensitive information—including Social Security numbers and account passcodes—for approximately 73 million current and former account holders.
  • July 2024 Breach: Compromised call and text message interaction records for nearly all AT&T wireless customers across a six-month window between mid-2022 and early 2023.

In total, over 100 million individuals were impacted by one or both incidents.

How Much Money Will Approved Claimants Receive?

Roughly 4.38 million claims were filed prior to the December 18, 2025 deadline. Payment amounts depend on whether claimants submitted documented financial losses or qualify for a standard base payout:

  • Standard Cash Claims (Pro Rata): Most claimants who did not submit proof of out-of-pocket losses are estimated to receive between $6.50 and $40, depending on which breach impacted them and how their tier is calculated.
  • Documented Losses: Claimants who suffered verified financial damages—such as fraudulent charges, identity theft remediation costs, or unreimbursed expenses—are eligible for higher payouts:
    • Up to $5,000 for losses tied to the first data breach.
    • Up to $2,500 for losses tied to the second data breach.

When Will Payments Arrive?

Settlement checks and electronic transfers cannot be issued immediately following a court ruling. Under standard class-action procedure, funds remain on hold until the mandatory post-approval appeals window expires—typically 30 days—and claim reviews are finalized.

Assuming no delays or appeals prolong the process, distributions are scheduled to begin by late November or December.
