BLOOMINGTON — Summer’s sweetest tradition returns to Bloomington this weekend as the Bloomington Community Farmers’ Market hosts its annual Heirloom Tomato Tasting on Saturday, August 15.
The free event runs from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Fernandez Plaza, located at 401 N. Morton St. Samples will be available while supplies last, and market organizers encourage visitors to arrive early for the best selection of varieties.
Attendees will have the opportunity to sample a vibrant array of locally grown heirloom tomatoes, showcasing a wide range of unique colors, shapes, sizes, and flavor profiles.
Event organizers emphasize that the event highlights the stark difference between commercially shipped produce and locally grown crops. Unlike supermarket tomatoes—which are often picked green to withstand long transport times—local farmers harvest heirloom varieties at peak ripeness, bringing them directly to the market at maximum flavor and juiciness.
