Homeschool Connections to launch monthly at Orleans Public Library

ORLEANS Homeschooling families throughout Orange County and the surrounding area will soon have a new place to connect, learn and build friendships as the Orleans Public Library launches Homeschool Connections, a new monthly gathering created in partnership with Purdue Extension–Orange County.

The free program will kick off on Tuesday, Sept. 1, at 1 p.m. at the Orleans Public Library and is open to homeschooling families regardless of where they are in their homeschooling journey.

Organizers say the goal of Homeschool Connections is to provide support, encouragement and a sense of community for local homeschool families while creating opportunities to share ideas and resources. During the first meeting, participants will have the chance to help shape future gatherings by offering feedback and discussing what programs and activities they would like to see in the months ahead.

The event will include activities for both parents and students.

Adults are invited to participate in Homeschool 101, an informal session led by experienced homeschooling parents who will share practical advice, helpful resources and answer questions from families who may be considering homeschooling or are just beginning the process. Veteran homeschool families are also encouraged to attend to exchange ideas, discuss curriculum options and connect with others who share similar educational goals.

While parents meet, school-age homeschool students will have the opportunity to participate in icebreaker games and meet-and-greet activities designed to help them make new friends and connect with other homeschooled children in the community.

Organizers hope the monthly gatherings will become a welcoming space where families can build lasting relationships, discover educational resources and create a supportive network for both parents and children.

The program is free, but advance registration is required. Families interested in attending can register by calling the Orleans Public Library at (812) 865-3270 or by stopping by the library’s front desk.

Homeschool Connections is presented by Purdue Extension–Orange County in collaboration with the Orleans Public Library. According to Purdue Extension, the program is designed to strengthen connections among local homeschooling families while providing educational support and opportunities for community involvement.

Those needing accommodations, interpreter services or translation assistance are encouraged to contact Purdue Extension before the meeting.
