BEDFORD — Residents looking to clear out old electronics while supporting a good cause will soon have the perfect opportunity. Bedford First Christian Church has announced it will host a community-wide technology donation drive next month.
The event, titled “Community Tech Drive: Repurpose Tech for Good,” is being held in partnership with Ellettsville FMC, Heartland, and BinaryHeart. The collection is scheduled for Saturday, June 13, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the church, located at 1101 15th Street in Bedford.

The driving force behind the refurbishment effort is BinaryHeart, a student-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to bridging the digital divide.
Instead of letting old devices gather dust or end up in a landfill, the group actively works to improve communities by providing access to technology and teaching digital skills. They collect used hardware, securely wipe all personal data, repair and refurbish the units, and redistribute them to local families, students, and community members who lack reliable access to technology.
Because BinaryHeart is a registered nonprofit, all device donations may be eligible for a tax deduction. Volunteers will be stationed at the church throughout the day to provide donation receipts upon request.
What to Bring: Acceptable Donations
Organizers are looking for a wide variety of hardware. Devices do not need to be in perfect shape to be of use. The drive is accepting:
- Computers: Laptops and desktops, whether they are currently working or broken.
- Mobile Devices: Tablets and smartphones.
- Peripherals: Working monitors, keyboards, mice, and related accessories.
- Power Supplies: Chargers and cables.
Donors are welcome to drop off items at their convenience during the six-hour window, or stick around to learn more about the initiative.
