Back-to-School event: Indiana Health Centers launching ‘Fresh Cut, New Kicks’ to support local youth

BEDFORD As families look ahead to the upcoming academic year, Indiana Health Centers is stepping up to ensure area children can head into their classrooms with an extra boost of self-esteem.

Indiana Health Centers will host its community outreach event, “Fresh Cut, New Kicks: School Ready 2026,” this summer in Bedford. The initiative is designed to build on existing back-to-school supply drives by focusing on another crucial component of student confidence: personal presentation and properly fitting footwear.

The community gathering will take place on Saturday, July 18, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Indiana Health Centers facility located at 2415 Mitchell Road in Bedford.

Services and Resources Offered

The event aims to offer comprehensive support for families preparing for the busy school season. Attendees can look forward to a variety of free resources and family-centered activities, including:

  • Free Haircuts: Providing children with a fresh trim to feel confident on their first day back.
  • New Shoes: Distributed to local children and families who are in need.
  • Health Resources & Guidance: Offering critical wellness information.
  • On-Site Medicaid Navigation: An on-site navigator will be available to actively assist families with the Medicaid application process.
  • Family Fun Activities: Entertainment and activities to keep children engaged and excited.

How Local Businesses Can Get Involved

Organizers are actively seeking local businesses, corporate sponsors, and community partners to help maximize the impact of the event. There are several ways for area organizations to contribute:

  • Donations: The center is accepting brand-new children’s shoes, food, and beverage donations for the event, as well as raffle prizes and gift cards.
  • Logistical Support: Businesses can lend event equipment, such as pop-up tents, tables, and chairs.
  • Monetary Sponsorships: Financial contributions go directly toward sourcing materials and expanding reach.

In exchange for their generosity, participating businesses will receive distinct community perks. Benefits include formal recognition on event signage, targeted promotions across social media platforms, the opportunity to host an organizational table on-site, and direct engagement with local families.

For those who want to volunteer, donate, or secure a business sponsorship, organizers encourage reaching out directly to event coordinators:

“Your support helps ensure every child feels confident, prepared, and supported for the new school year,” organizers shared in a statement. “Together, we can make a lasting impact in our community.”
