Mitchell Chamber golf outing seeks final teams ahead of May 8 event

MITCHELL — With the event just days away, the Mitchell Chamber of Commerce is making a final push for teams to sign up for its 2026 golf outing, set for Friday, May 8, at Stone Crest Golf Community.

The annual scramble, which begins with a 9 a.m. shotgun start, serves as a key fundraiser for the Mitchell Persimmon Festival, one of the community’s largest and longest-running traditions. Proceeds help offset costs associated with entertainment, staging, and the festival’s well-known parade.

Chamber officials say the outing is designed to bring together local businesses, residents, and visitors for a day of recreation and networking while supporting the continued success of the festival. The event returned in 2025 after a hiatus and is now in its second year back on the calendar.

Teams and individual golfers are still being sought as organizers look to fill remaining spots. Team entry is $200, while individual registration is $50 per player, which includes green fees and carts. Mulligans will also be available for purchase during the event.

In addition to player registrations, hole sponsorships remain available, offering local businesses another way to support the fundraiser and gain visibility during the outing.

“The golf scramble allows for networking and a fun day in the sun,” Chamber President Toya Lamb said in earlier remarks about the event. “The funds provide sustainability for the festival to continue another year.”

The Mitchell Persimmon Festival, which dates back to 1947, draws thousands of visitors each year and is scheduled for September 2026.

Those interested in registering a team or becoming a sponsor can contact the Mitchell Chamber of Commerce by calling 812-849-4441 or emailing mitchellchamber@frontier.com. Organizers encourage early sign-up as remaining team spots are limited.
