Stars roll to sweep of Barr-Reeve, North Daviess

BNL’s Paige Voigtschild won three events during Thursday’s meet with Barr-Reeve and North Daviess.

BEDFORD – Bedford North Lawrence won 10 events while cruising to wins over Barr-Reeve and North Daviess during girls high school track action on Thursday.

The Stars totaled 99 points, followed by the Vikings (50) and Cougars (13). In the boys meet, BNL was victorious with 65 points, followed by North Daviess (50) and Barr-Reeve (34).

Paige Voigtschild was the catalyst for BNL in the girls meet. She won three events, crossing the line first in the 400 (1:02.53), 800 (2:32.85) and 1600 (5:28.84). She was also a member of the winning 1600 relay, combining with Gracie Simmerman, Lily Mishler and Alaina Fish to clock 4:32.19.

Madalyn Mason was a double winner for BNL as she took the discus (82-5) and shot put (31-3.5).

Other individual winners for the Stars included Mishler (13.42 in the 100), Avery Brown (7-6 in the pole vault), and Ashlynn York (13:16.07 in the 3200). BNL also won the 400 relay with Brooke Barr, Emma Heinzman, Rihanna Tillett and Kendall Pittman combining to finish in 57.01.

BNL’s Lily Mishler raced to a victory in the 100 meter dash.

BNL was missing seniors in both meets because of the annual Scholarship Awards night.

“It was a good meet for us,” BNL coach Jason Webb said. “Running without the seniors gave others a spot to compete in events they wouldn’t usually compete. Like I’ve said before, we’re seeing pieces fit together where they need to be, going into conference and sectional.”

In the boys meet, BNL had two double winners. Jaden Gilbert, making his first appearance in track as a spring dual-sport athlete, won the 100 (11.66) and 200 (24.48). Tripp Stahl continued his domination of the throwing events as he won the discus (158-1) and shot put (53-7.5).

Other winners for BNL included Saeben Arce (54.58 in the 400) and Tristan Staggs (17-8.75 in the long jump). The Stars also claimed the 3200 relay (Tate McFarland, Eli McFarland, Sam Strauser and Weston Holtz in 9:17.27)) and 1600 relay (Arce, Holtz, Staggs and Strauser in 3:44.58).

“It was a good job by the young kids,” BNL coach Brett Deckard said, “plus Tripp and Orion (Hill).”

BNL will visit Mitchell on Monday.
