SEYMOUR — The pavement at the local Walmart is about to get a serious workout as the third annual Firetruck Pull returns this Saturday. On April 18, 2026, teams will gather in the parking lot at 1600 E. Tipton Street to test their strength against a 37,000-pound opponent—all in the name of supporting Jackson County Special Olympics Indiana.

The event officially kicks off with the main pull at noon, following a registration period from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
The Challenge: 37,000 Pounds, 50 Feet
Thirteen teams have already signed up to participate in the ultimate tug-of-war. Each team, consisting of up to 10 members, must work in unison to pull a massive 37,000-pound firetruck across a 50-foot finish line. Teams are given up to three chances to clock their fastest time.
Awards will be presented at the conclusion of the event for several categories:
- Winning Team: The fastest pull of the day.
- Top Individual Fundraiser: The person who raises the most money.
- Top Team Fundraiser: The group with the highest total donations.
- Top Special Olympics Athlete Fundraiser: Recognizing the lead athlete fundraiser.
How to Join the Pull
Last-minute teams are still welcome to join the fray. To qualify, a team must:
- Raise at least $500.
- Arrive during the 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. registration window on Saturday.
- Have a team captain complete a registration form, submit collected funds, and ensure all members sign a liability waiver.
While limited shirts may be available for $20, they are no longer guaranteed for new teams registering the day of the event.
Community Fun and Sponsorship
The event is designed to be a family-friendly festival beyond the main competition. Attendees can enjoy:
- Vehicle Displays: A variety of first responder vehicles will be on-site for public viewing.
- Kids Zone: Special activities for children, including a dedicated “kids pull.”
- Food & Drink: The Covered Bridge BBQ food truck will be on-site, offering refreshments for purchase.
The event is backed by 27 current sponsors, though additional sponsorships are being accepted through the day of the event for a cost of $100. Sponsors will be announced during the pull and recognized on social media.
To sign up a team or become a sponsor, interested parties can call or text Zach Spicer at 812-595-9162 or email zspicer725@gmail.com between now and the morning of the pull. All proceeds benefit the athletes of the Jackson County Special Olympics.
