Field day to highlight importance of soil health in pasturelands

BEDFORD — A field day focused on the importance of soil health in pasturelands will be held on Friday, May 23, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1115 E Kenray Lake Rd in Bedford, Indiana, organizers announced Monday.

The event will cover various topics related to maintaining and improving soil health for pasture and hay ground, including the importance of soil testing, information on the Indiana State Department of Agriculture (ISDA) Soil Sampling Program, understanding soil test analysis and nutrient needs for quality forage, grazing heights and pasture management, utilizing cover crops in grazing systems, and conservation practices for pasturelands.

Attendees will receive a free lunch. However, to ensure an adequate lunch supply, attendees are asked to RSVP by 3 p.m. on Monday, May 19.

The event is organized by the Lawrence County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) and Purdue Extension, in partnership with other organizations.
