Indiana Democrats to host People’s Town Hall in Lafayette, criticizing Rep. Baird’s absence

LAFAYETTE – The Indiana Democratic Party has announced that it will host a “People’s Town Hall” in Lafayette on Friday, May 2, 2025, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. ET at IBEW Local 668, 2535 South 30th Street. The event aims to address the impact of Republican policies on Hoosiers’ healthcare, nutrition benefits, and other critical issues, with a focus on the absence of U.S. Rep. Jim Baird.

The Democrats are accusing Rep. Baird of “hiding from his constituents” at the direction of national Republican Party leaders. They assert that the congressman has refused to hold public, in-person town hall meetings to address voters’ concerns.

State Rep. Chris Campbell and Indiana Democratic Party Chair Karen Tallian will be featured panelists at the event. Former State Rep. Dave Crooks will moderate the discussion.

Indiana Democratic Party Spokesperson Sam Barloga criticized Rep. Baird, stating, “Extremists in D.C., including Rep. Baird, voted to rip away health care coverage and food assistance from Hoosiers to fund tax cuts for their wealthy donors. Voters in Indiana are demanding to be heard. Rep. Baird has been a cheerleader for Trump and Musk’s dangerous tariff agenda. He is sitting idly while Hoosier jobs are at risk.”

Barloga also referenced previous “People’s Town Halls” in Bloomington and New Albany, claiming they demonstrated the anger and frustration that Hoosiers are feeling. He asserted that “If Rep. Baird refuses to hold a public, in-person town hall and answer to Hoosiers’ pressing concerns, voters will look to leaders who will.”

The event is open to the public, and Hoosiers can RSVP using this link.
