Lawrence County Community Corrections has free firewood to keep vulnerable residents warm this winter

LAWRENCE COUNTY — As colder weather approaches, the Lawrence County Community Corrections Road Crew has been hard at work cutting, splitting, and stockpiling firewood to support community members in need.

The program provides free heating fuel to elderly, disabled, and low-income residents who cannot afford to purchase firewood or are physically unable to gather their own.

According to Community Corrections Director Chad Shew, participants in the program have been diligently processing trees and brush cleared from local public areas, effectively turning waste into a vital resource for vulnerable families. In addition to helping neighbors stay warm during freezing winter weather, the initiative provides participants with constructive community service and valuable skill-building opportunities.

Director Shew also extended a special note of thanks to Camp Rivervale for partnering with Community Corrections and providing the harvested firewood for the initiative.
