Lawrence County Emergency Management evaluates telecom backup plans following multi-county tabletop event

BEDFORD — Lawrence County Emergency Management Director Valerie Luchauer briefed county commissioners on Monday regarding ongoing efforts to bolster local communications infrastructure against potential network outages and cyber disruptions.

Luchauer reported that she recently participated in a regional tabletop training exercise hosted in neighboring Monroe County, which simulated a widespread, catastrophic telecommunications failure across local emergency dispatch systems.

“We received some valuable information and will address those concerns during our next 911 meeting,” Luchauer told the commissioners, emphasizing that the lessons learned during the drill will help local emergency response teams refine their fail-safe protocols and backup dispatch capabilities.

In addition to the Monroe County exercise, Luchauer attended a statewide emergency management conference in Indianapolis, where she received updates from state officials regarding new administrative guidelines, grant opportunities, and statewide technology initiatives for county disaster preparedness departments.
