BEDFORD — For Kerin Taylor, opening Bedford Refillery and Resale was an opportunity to combine her passion for resale shopping with a growing interest in cleaner, healthier household products while becoming part of a new community.

Taylor moved to Indiana from Wisconsin last March to be closer to family. She previously owned a children’s consignment shop in Wisconsin before opening Bedford Refillery and Resale in October 2025.
The business, located at 2627 16th Street in the Jay C Plaza, combines a refillery offering household cleaning products with a resale shop featuring home decor, kitchen supplies, household goods, and children’s items. The selection changes as new merchandise arrives, giving customers the opportunity to discover something different with each visit.

The refillery focuses on clean, nontoxic products, including dish soap, laundry soap, handcrafted hand soap, and a variety of cleaning supplies.
Taylor said more consumers are looking for ways to reduce their exposure to certain chemicals and find products that better align with their health and wellness goals.

“People are sick of being sick,” Taylor said. “Gut health, mental health, anxiety, and chronic health issues have a lot to do with microplastics and toxins that are in a lot of products.”
She said her goal is to make cleaner, healthier options more accessible to people who want to make changes in their homes without having to search extensively for alternatives.
“People are trying to find cleaner and healthier options more easily,” Taylor said.
The refill model also offers an environmental benefit. Instead of purchasing a new plastic container every time a household product runs out, customers can bring their containers back to refill them.
“Refilleries help the environment as well,” Taylor said. “Instead of buying a bunch of plastic containers every week, you can refill them and keep them out of the landfills.”

In addition to its resale and refill offerings, the store provides a place for local makers and artists to showcase their work. Taylor currently carries products from 29 local crafters, with other artists also selling items through the shop.
The variety of merchandise gives customers another reason to stop in, with new products and vendors adding to the ever-changing selection.
Taylor said the business has attracted shoppers from outside the immediate area. She recalled a couple who traveled from Terre Haute to visit the store.
Beyond the shop, Taylor has also launched The Bargain Trail, a free app designed with antique and bargain hunters in mind.
The app provides a map featuring yard sales, pop-up events, antique shops, and vendor fairs, helping users discover places to find unique items, hidden treasures, and deals. It gives shoppers a convenient way to plan their next treasure hunt while connecting with local sellers and small businesses.
The app is free to use, and listing an event costs 99 cents.

As October marks Women in Small Business Month, Taylor’s ventures highlight the entrepreneurial spirit of women-owned businesses while bringing together sustainability, resale shopping and support for local makers.
Through Bedford Refillery and Resale, Taylor offers customers refillable household products, secondhand merchandise and locally crafted goods. With The Bargain Trail, she is also helping antique enthusiasts and bargain hunters discover new places to shop and explore.
For Taylor, however, one of the most rewarding parts of opening her business has been becoming part of the Bedford community.
“This is an incredibly kind community. It is a great community, and I feel like we are building a great community here,” Taylor said. “I have a lot of customers who have become my friends. People need to realize how great of a community Bedford is.”
Bedford Refillery and Resale is open Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
