MITCHELL— A Mitchell man was taken into custody Friday morning after a reported domestic dispute led to a physical altercation outside a local camper, according to court documents.

Michael Jarvis, 38, of Mitchell, was arrested on September 25, 2026, by the Lawrence County Police Department. He faces a preliminary charge of domestic battery resulting in bodily injury, a Class A misdemeanor.
Early Morning Dispute Leads to Police Response
According to a probable cause affidavit filed by Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputy Thomas Porter, law enforcement responded to the area of Meridian Road and Doc Hamilton Boulevard in Mitchell after a witness reported a domestic violence incident involving a male and a female. The reporting party stated that the woman had approached her directly to talk about the incident, prompting her to call dispatch.
The suspect, identified as Jarvis, had left the scene on foot but was located shortly after near 1 Russell Drive and detained by Mitchell Police Chief Troy Lobosky.
Deputy Porter spoke with the victim, who stated that she and Jarvis have an intermittent intimate relationship and had been involved in a verbal argument outside her camper on Russell Drive around 5:00 a.m.
Physical Escalation and Injuries Reported
The victim told officers that during the argument, Jarvis became agitated, spat in her face, and threw a tube of silicone caulking at her as they separated. The tube struck her left shoulder.
The victim reported soreness in her shoulder and stated that she briefly lost consciousness due to the pain upon impact. Deputy Porter observed yellow and purple bruising on her left shoulder and documented the injuries using department cameras.
IU Health Ambulance personnel were called to evaluate the victim at the scene, where she signed a refusal form. The reporting party indicated she planned to take the victim to the hospital for a follow-up evaluation later.
Suspect Statement and Arrest
After being advised of his Miranda rights, Jarvis acknowledged arguing with the victim and stated he did not intend to hit her with the tube of caulking. Deputy Porter noted that Jarvis had a bleeding nose, though Jarvis stated he did not know the cause and declined medical treatment.
Based on the visible injuries, witness statements, and admissions made at the scene, Jarvis was placed under arrest and transported to the Lawrence County Jail for booking.
