Indiana DNR unveils October Fall Lineup: Campsite decorating, costume contests, and seasonal events at state parks

INDIANA — The Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has launched its month-long celebration of autumn, inviting residents and visitors to explore a variety of fall and Halloween-themed activities at state parks and properties across the state throughout October.

Whether families are looking for a quick day trip, an evening outing, or a full weekend camping getaway, Indiana state properties are hosting interactive programs ranging from campsite decorating competitions and costume contests to trick-or-treating, live music, and guided nature walks.

Fall Festivities at Spring Mill State Park

In Southern Indiana, Spring Mill State Park in Mitchell will host several hallmark seasonal activities during the month:

  • Campsite Decorating (Saturday, Oct. 3): Campers can transform their campsites into festive fall displays as part of the park’s seasonal kickoff.
  • Music Weekend (Saturday, Oct. 10): Live music performances will fill the historic Pioneer Village from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. PDT.
  • 7th Annual Candle Lantern Stroll (Tuesday, Oct. 13): An evening walk starting at 4:00 p.m. PDT near the Grissom Memorial.
  • Scarecrow Weekend (Saturday, Oct. 17): Pioneer Village hosts autumn crafts, displays, and family-friendly seasonal programs.
  • Haunted Village: A seasonal tradition where the historic Pioneer Village undergoes a dramatic dark makeover for an evening of spooks and frights.
