SHOALS — The Shoals Community School Corporation Drama Club has been named the recipient of a $27,739.96 Impact Grant from the Martin County Community Foundation (MCCF) to fund a major audio enhancement project titled “Waiting to be Heard.”
Representatives from the foundation visited the school to present the grant and celebrate alongside student members and drama club co-sponsors Julia Harper and Alisha Bailey.
Upgrading the Stage Experience
The “Waiting to be Heard” project addresses critical equipment needs in the school’s performing arts department. Over time, outdated sound equipment and limited microphone availability have made it challenging for student performers to be clearly heard by audience members during plays and musical productions.
The grant funding will allow the drama club to purchase and install professional-grade audio gear, including wireless body microphones, upgraded mixing consoles, and improved auditorium speakers. These technical enhancements are designed to ensure every student’s voice carries clearly across the auditorium, elevating the production quality for both the performers and the community.
Community Foundation Support
The Martin County Community Foundation awards annual Impact Grants to fund transformative, large-scale projects that address specific community needs, support local education, and enhance regional cultural offerings.
By investing in the school corporation’s fine arts department, the grant helps provide students with hands-on experience using modern theater technology—skills that extend to stage management, sound engineering, and technical production.
School leaders and club sponsors expressed deep gratitude for the foundation’s support, noting that the new equipment will serve student performers and audience members for years to come. The upgraded audio system is expected to be fully installed ahead of the drama club’s upcoming seasonal productions.
