BLOOMINGTON — Downtown Bloomington is preparing to transform into a vibrant, global soundscape as the 33rd annual Lotus World Music & Arts Festival returns October 1–4, 2026.
Organized by the Lotus Education & Arts Foundation, the four-day celebration brings together musicians, visual artists, and festivalgoers from around the globe to explore diverse cultural traditions through live performance and hands-on participation.
Free Community Programming and Nighttime Visuals
A hallmark of this year’s festival is an expanded lineup of free, family-friendly events designed to engage the entire community:
- Lotus Parade: Making a celebrated return, the colorful parade will wind through downtown streets, featuring giant puppets, local community groups, and live percussion ensembles.
- Courthouse Projection Mapping: As night falls, the historic Monroe County Courthouse will serve as a canvas for dynamic visual projection art, blending cutting-edge technology with local heritage.
- Arts Village & Workshops: Attendees of all ages can participate in hands-on crafting, interactive art installations, and guided world dance workshops.
- Community Square Dance: Festivalgoers can join in traditional group dances led by live callers and musicians.
World-Class Music Across Multiple Venues
Beyond the outdoor festivities, Lotus Fest will host evening ticketed showcases across dynamic downtown venues, including local churches, theaters, and outdoor tented stages. Featuring a roster of international touring artists alongside regional performers, the festival offers genre-bending musical experiences spanning global folk, traditional acoustic, and contemporary fusion.
Established in 1994, the festival honors the legacy of Indiana musician Quinten Lotus Dickey, serving as one of the oldest and largest world music celebrations in the American Midwest.
