COLUMBUS, OH – Two Indiana State Police Troopers represented their department last week during the 2nd Annual Top Trooper Competition hosted by the Ohio Highway Patrol.
Trooper Caroline A. Roberts, from the Bloomington District, and Master Trooper Andrew W. Cochran, whose duty assignment is SWAT and who resides in the Bremen District, represented the Indiana State Police in this year’s competition. The competition was held at the OHP Training Academy.
Top Trooper Competition Categories include the following:
- Driving and timed maneuverability on an emergency vehicle operations course
- Physical fitness assessment through CrossFit-style exercises
- Firearms with department-issued platforms
- Leadership assessment interviews in front of a panel of senior officers to demonstrate leadership abilities and professionalism.
Awards included Overall Top Team, Overall Top Female, Overall Top Male, and individual awards for the competition categories.
Trooper Roberts finished 9th amongst 30 different competitors from across the United States as Overall Top Female. She finished 6th in the fitness category, 8th in the firearms category, and scored in the top third of the leadership interview.
Master Trooper Cochran scored 8th in the firearms category and finished 18th as Overall Top Male. As a team, the ISP Troopers finished 8th on the competition’s obstacle course.
State agencies that participated in the competition were invited to send one female and one male Trooper, and competitors were required to hold the rank of Trooper to be eligible.
