INDIANAPOLIS — Two refurbished basketball courts at Tarkington Park in Indianapolis now honor two Indiana Fever legends with strong ties to Purdue University.
Purdue University and the Pacers Foundation, along with community partners and city leaders, gathered Wednesday, Sept. 16, to dedicate the courts honoring Tamika Catchings and Stephanie White.
The courts are located in the Butler-Tarkington neighborhood and will be available for residents and the larger central Indianapolis community.
One court is named for White, the current Indiana Fever head coach and former Fever player who helped lead Purdue to the 1999 NCAA championship.
The other honors Catchings, a former Fever star forward who won a WNBA championship and was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.
Purdue leaders attended the dedication as part of the university’s partnership with the Pacers Foundation.
“As Boilermakers, we are thankful to partner with the Pacers Foundation to celebrate these basketball legends and two iconic brands,” said David Umulis, Purdue’s senior vice provost for Indianapolis.
Umulis said Purdue plans to continue working with community partners as Indianapolis continues to grow.
The refurbished courts provide a new recreational space for residents of the Butler-Tarkington neighborhood while honoring two women who have played significant roles in Indiana basketball.
