BEDFORD — A chaotic domestic disturbance call early Wednesday morning led to the arrest of multiple individuals—including an underage Bloomington man facing illegal consumption charges—and the recovery of a concealed firearm at a Bedford apartment complex with an extensive history of police activity.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed by Bedford Police Officer Sarah Haluda, officers were dispatched around 12:15 a.m. to the 820 block of 17th Street, following reports of a loud domestic argument and screaming. The residence, occupied by Christian Johnson, 24, has been the subject of 26 police calls for service since May 2026, involving juvenile runaways, underage drinking parties, batteries, and reported sexual assaults.
Upon arrival, officers heard loud music and shouting. When officers knocked, occupants peeked through window curtains before multiple individuals fled toward the apartment’s rear deck.
As officers attempted to secure the scene, Johnson stepped outside, displaying clear signs of heavy intoxication and behaving aggressively toward officers while wearing an unzipped crossbody bag across his chest. A second 911 call was dispatched simultaneously, reporting that a male involved in a fight at the apartment had brandished a handgun from his waistband.
When officers attempted to detain Johnson inside the apartment, he physically resisted and was taken to the ground, repeatedly reaching toward his chest bag. Officer Haluda placed a Taser against Johnson’s chest, prompting him to comply and admit that a loaded firearm was inside the bag. The weapon was seized by police as evidence.
Inside the residence, officers encountered several individuals who claimed they were present for a recording microphone setup in the living room. Two males admitted they had been hired by Johnson as security to “check IDs” for the party.
During a search of the building and surrounding area, police made several additional contact and custody decisions.
Jeremiah Boyce, 19, of Bloomington, was discovered hiding in the apartment bathroom, displaying extreme intoxication. Boyce provided a preliminary breath test sample of 0.222% BrAC. After being transported to IU Health Bedford for medical clearance, he was remanded to the Lawrence County Jail on preliminary charges of illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor. At the time of his arrest, Boyce was out on bond for several Monroe County charges, including felony counts and prior underage drinking offenses.
A 17-year-old female was found impaired behind the apartment under the deck. She initially provided a false name and age (18), but her mother later confirmed her true identity to police. She registered a preliminary breath test of 0.195% BrAC and was released to a parent with a promise to appear in court on Oct. 14, 2026, on a charge of illegal consumption.
Cameron Fischman, 20, of Bedford, fled on foot from Sergeant Crulo and Major Emmons into an alley behind the residence. Homeowner security footage later showed Fischman crawling under a nearby deck on 18th Street. Officers located him back inside Johnson’s apartment shortly thereafter, where he was arrested and remanded to the Lawrence County Jail on charges of resisting arrest causing bodily injury.
Another male fled alongside Fischman but surrendered to officers. He was released to a friend at his mother’s request.
Another female was located near the scene exhibiting heavy intoxication. She was allowed to arrange a safe ride home.
Johnson was also taken into custody and remanded to the Lawrence County Jail on charges stemming from the incident, including providing alcohol to a minor, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest causing bodily injury, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor and maintaining a common nuisance.
