WASHINGTON — A 17-year-old Washington teenager has been formally charged as an adult after a Sept. 10 shooting on East National Highway.
Ayden Lofton faces serious felony charges filed by Daviess County Prosecutor Abby Brown, including attempted murder, attempted battery with a deadly weapon, two counts of criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, and dangerous possession of a firearm.
The incident began shortly after 1:00 a.m. on September 10th, when officers with the Washington Police Department responded to reports of gunfire in the 1400 block of East National Highway.
Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement launched an investigation and identified several individuals believed to be involved in the disturbance. Investigators subsequently located and detained Lofton, who was initially transported to a juvenile detention center on preliminary charges before formal adult charges were filed.
Lofton appeared for his initial hearing in Daviess Superior Court on Monday, September 21, where he was formally read the charges and remanded to the custody of the Daviess County Sheriff.
During the hearing, the court set a jury trial date for February 23.
The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing by local authorities. Under Indiana law, all criminal charges are merely allegations, and Lofton is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
