BLOOMINGTON — Sheriff’s deputies are investigating an overnight double shooting after two young men were shot while sitting inside a car parked outside a Bloomington residence.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office responded at approximately 4:08 a.m. Friday to the 3400 block of West Festive Drive, a residential area located on the city’s south side near Interstate 69 and West Fullerton Pike, following reports of gunfire and a gunshot victim being transported by private vehicle.
According to investigators, the two victims—identified as local men ages 20 and 21, managed to drive themselves to a nearby hospital shortly after the incident. Deputies met with both men at the medical facility, where they were being treated for non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.
The victims reported that they were sitting inside a parked vehicle when an unknown individual fired shots at them.
Based on preliminary findings, detectives believe the shooting was a targeted incident and stated there is no ongoing safety threat to the surrounding community. No suspect descriptions or arrests have been announced as of Friday.
