INDIANAPOLIS — Jarrett Beckett has stepped into the role of Districts 8 and 9 Fire Training Coordinator for the Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS) and the Indiana Fire and Public Safety Academy, overseeing state-funded firefighter education across 19 southern Indiana counties.
Beckett officially assumed the position on July 1, bringing significant field experience, military leadership, and tactical expertise to the regional training program.
Before taking on his new state coordination role, Beckett served as a Captain and Advanced EMT with the Tri-Township Fire Protection District in Clark County. His years on the front lines involved hands-on leadership in firefighter instruction, emergency response operations, and complex incident coordination.
In addition to his civilian fire service background, Beckett served as a Sergeant and combat medic in the U.S. Army. His military medical training and operational discipline provide a strong foundation for managing high-stakes emergency service education and state-sponsored certification courses.
As Training Coordinator, Beckett is responsible for organizing, scheduling, and facilitating state-funded academy courses, professional certifications, and specialized training programs tailored to local volunteer and career fire departments. His territory spans two key homeland security districts:
- District 8: Bartholomew, Brown, Jackson, Lawrence, Monroe, Orange, and Washington counties.
- District 9: Clark, Dearborn, Decatur, Floyd, Franklin, Harrison, Jefferson, Jennings, Ohio, Ripley, Scott, and Switzerland counties.
Enhancing Statewide Public Safety Training
The Indiana Fire and Public Safety Academy—a specialized division under IDHS—works to standardize emergency services training throughout the state. By managing regional coordinators like Beckett, IDHS ensures that firefighters, rescue personnel, and emergency medical responders across all 92 counties have direct access to state-funded certifications, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standard compliance training, and localized skills development.
