INDIANAPOLIS — Purdue University and the Indianapolis Colts are teaming up to bring science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics education to the football field with the launch of the Colts STEAM Combine.
The interactive educational event will take place on Sunday, November 1, from noon to 3 p.m. at Lucas Oil Stadium. The event is designed for K-12 students and families, giving participants an opportunity to explore STEAM concepts through hands-on activities connected to sports.
Purdue students and faculty will lead educational experiences and demonstrations showing how STEAM skills are used in sports and related careers. The event will also introduce students to potential academic programs and career pathways.
“Purdue is sharing its strengths in STEAM disciplines to team up with the Colts to develop meaningful education and career pathways in Indianapolis,” said David Umulis, senior vice provost for Purdue Indianapolis.
“Through this partnership, Purdue and the Colts are creating experiences that explore science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics through the lens of sports, helping students and families see how classroom skills translate into real-world careers right here in Indiana’s capital city,” Umulis said.
Event and ticket information
Tickets for the Colts STEAM Combine are $50 and include admission to the educational event as well as a ticket to the Colts-Miami Dolphins game at Lucas Oil Stadium on Nov. 15.
Tickets are available through the Colts’ STEAM Combine website.
Purdue Indianapolis is in its first year as a Proud Partner of the Colts. The partnership is intended to create educational and career opportunities for students at different stages of the education-to-career journey.
In addition to the STEAM Combine, Purdue students will have access to professional development opportunities, career panels, internships, and other Colts experiences designed to connect classroom learning with industry experience.
The partnership is also part of Purdue’s expanding presence in Indianapolis, where students have opportunities to work directly with employers, develop professional networks, and gain hands-on experience through industry partnerships.
Organizers hope the Colts STEAM Combine will show students that the skills they learn in the classroom can lead to careers both in sports and in a wide range of STEAM-related fields.
