INDIANA — The Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is inviting outdoor enthusiasts across the state to get active and celebrate National Public Lands Day on Saturday, Sept. 26.
Hoosiers looking to participate can check the official DNR Calendar of Events to find local programs, educational workshops, and volunteer events taking place statewide. For those wishing to support conservation efforts from home, the DNR is offering a series of fun, informational videos designed to highlight public lands management and wildlife conservation.
September 26 also coincides with National Hunting and Fishing Day, presenting a unique opportunity to introduce newcomers to outdoor sports. The date marks both the start of Youth Deer Season and the state’s final Free Fishing Day of the year, allowing residents to fish public waters without a license. Additionally, open seasons on September 26 include Bullfrog, dove, and squirrel.
The DNR notes that purchasing a hunting, fishing, or combo license remains one of the most effective ways to support public grounds year-round. Revenue generated from license sales directly funds Indiana’s wildlife conservation programs, habitat restoration projects, public access points, and outdoor recreation facilities.
