Cummins and Bartholomew County Solid Waste Management District to host Community Recycling Day

COLUMBUS — Cummins Inc. and the Bartholomew County Solid Waste Management District (BCSWMD) will host a community-wide recycling day on Thursday, Sept. 3, offering local households a convenient way to safely dispose of recyclable goods and hazardous household materials.

The collection event will run from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.—or until disposal capacity is reached—at the entrance of the Cummins Columbus Engine Plant (CEP), located at 500 Central Avenue.

Accepted Recyclable Materials

Community members can drop off a wide array of household items:

  • Standard Household Recyclables: Assorted plastic, metal, and glass containers, cardboard, paper, and scrap metal.
  • Electronics & Household Devices: Electronic devices, computers, monitors, televisions, and associated components.
  • Hazardous & Special Waste: Household paints and stains, lawn/household chemicals, used motor oil, antifreeze, batteries, and fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs).

Unacceptable Items

Certain items will not be accepted during the event:

  • Tractor tires and propane tanks
  • Styrofoam and plastic bags
  • Construction waste, general trash, and wood waste
