MONROE COUNTY — With high temperatures posing a potential health and safety risk across the region, Monroe County facilities are opening their doors today to provide temporary relief from the extreme heat.
Officials emphasize that extreme heat is more than just an inconvenience—it can pose a serious threat to personal well-being. The designated cooling stations offer a designated place for individuals to step indoors, cool down, and continue on their way.
What Visitors Need to Know
Community members planning to utilize these facilities should keep the following guidelines in mind:
- Services Offered: These sites are strictly intended for short-term cooling. Food, showers, and sleeping areas are not available.
- Overnight Needs: Individuals requiring overnight shelter are encouraged to head to local dedicated community shelters.
- Rules & Access: Visitors are asked to respect station rules and refrain from entering restricted areas.
- Pet Policy: Pets are only permitted at Monroe Fire Protection District Stations 21 and 29. All pets must remain secured inside a kennel or carrier.
