INDIANAPOLIS — One of Hoosier State’s most cherished musical traditions reached its crescendo on Saturday as 34 of the state’s premier high school marching bands gathered at the Indiana State Fairgrounds to compete in the 2026 Indiana State Fair Band Day Presented by Music Travel Consultants & Paige’s Music.
Following an intense day of preliminary and evening performances, judges crowned the Anderson High School Marching Highlanders as the 2026 Indiana State Fair Band Day Champions.
A Tradition of Musical Excellence
For generations, Indiana State Fair Band Day has served as a cornerstone summer showcase celebrating student musicians from every corner of Indiana. The annual event evaluates bands on musical accuracy, visual execution, ensemble effect, and overall field presentation, showcasing the teamwork, discipline, and school spirit that define the state’s track show marching band culture.
After daytime preliminary rounds pared down the competitive field, the top 16 ensembles advanced to perform under the lights for the championship evening showcase.

The judges selected the following high school programs to advance to the 2026 Indiana State Fair Band Day finals:

- Mooresville High School
- Northeastern High School (Marching Knights)
- Richmond High School (Red Devil Marching Band)
- Spirit of Muncie Band and Guard
- The Sound of West Side
- Winchester Community High School
- Yorktown High School (Pride of Yorktown Marching Band & Guard)
Visiting the Fair
The 2026 Indiana State Fair continues through Sunday, August 23 (closed on Mondays). Guests visiting the fairgrounds can experience live music, 4-H agricultural competitions, carnival rides, traditional fair food, and family entertainment throughout the remainder of the summer run.
