BLOOMINGTON — Local history enthusiasts and community members are invited to lend a hand in preserving part of the city’s heritage this month. Organizers are seeking volunteers for a series of hands-on workshops aimed at documenting and assessing historic monuments at Rose Hill Cemetery.
The Monument Condition Documentation Survey will take place every Saturday throughout August, kicking off at 10:00 a.m.
The initiative focuses on caring for the oldest section of Rose Hill Cemetery. Volunteers will assist in photographing and documenting historic headstones and monuments. The data collected during these sessions will serve as the foundation for a comprehensive monument restoration and preservation plan.
No prior experience in historic preservation, photography, or monument care is required to participate.
During the workshops, participants will receive hands-on instruction to learn how to:
- Properly photograph historic monuments for official documentation.
- Assess and record physical conditions using a standardized rating system.
- Gather essential data needed to guide future restoration efforts.
