MONROE COUNTY — Indiana Conservation Officers have recovered both a body and a submerged vehicle from Monroe Lake following an extensive, multi-day investigation near the Two Herons Marina.
Authorities were first notified Wednesday evening after family members reported a missing person last seen near the lake’s marina late Sunday evening. According to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR), the individual’s cellphone was discovered near the scene early Monday morning, prompting loved ones to search the area before contacting law enforcement.
Upon receiving the missing-person report Wednesday night, Indiana Conservation Officers launched immediate search efforts across the water.
Around 1:30 p.m. Thursday, officers were dispatched to the Cutright State Recreation Area behind Two Herons Marina. Conservation officers located and recovered a body near a fishing pier.
Responding crew members returned to the lake on Friday, using specialized side-scan sonar technology to search for a vehicle believed to have been driven into the water. Divers located and successfully retrieved the submerged vehicle Friday afternoon.
Ongoing Investigation
DNR officers indicated that no foul play is currently suspected in connection with the incident.
The Monroe County Coroner’s Office has taken custody of the remains and scheduled an autopsy to officially determine the cause and manner of death, as well as confirm identification.
Authorities state the investigation remains active and ongoing, with additional details expected once the coroner’s report is finalized.
