Lawrence County Highway Department issues updates on paving projects and bridge reopenings

BEDFORD — The Lawrence County Highway Department has released an update regarding several ongoing road paving operations and bridge construction projects across the county, outlining upcoming closures and temporary traffic conditions.

County Highway Superintendent Brian Sowder detailed the department’s latest progress and provided schedule adjustments for local drivers.

Paving Projects & Road Closures

  • Stumphole Bridge Road: Crews completed paving on Stumphole Bridge Road from State Road 450 to just short of Spreen Road. Paving operations will move to the section from Spreen Road heading toward the bridge. This section of Stumphole Bridge Road will be closed to traffic during paving operations.
  • Red Crane Road: Resurfacing crews are scheduled to pave Red Crane Road stretching from the bridge to Pinhook Road. Drivers should expect equipment and delays in the area.

Bridge Construction & Access Updates

  • Stars Boulevard (Bridge 46): Work on Bridge 46 along Stars Boulevard has been completed. The bridge is fully reopened to traffic.
  • Boone Hollow Road (Bridge 104): Work on Bridge 104 over Indian Creek on Boone Hollow Road is wrapping up. The bridge itself is set to reopen either tonight or tomorrow.

Caution Advised for Boone Hollow Road Travelers

While Bridge 104 is reopening to traffic, Superintendent Sowder noted a temporary hazard for motorists. The bridge approaches still require paving to seamlessly connect with the new deck overlay.

Due to scheduling, approach paving cannot take place until Thursday, July 30, or Friday, July 31.

As a result, drivers will encounter a 1- to 2-inch drop-off edge at both ends of the bridge deck. Motorists are urged to slow down and exercise extreme caution when driving over the Indian Creek bridge on Boone Hollow Road until the approach paving is completed late next week.
