BLOOMINGTON — With nearly half of families in south-central Indiana living just one emergency away from financial crisis, United Way of South Central Indiana is inviting the community to enjoy an evening of recreation that gives back to local working households.
The organization will host its annual Play With a Purpose community event on Thursday, August 6, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Hoosier Alley in Bloomington. The family-friendly event blends bowling, roller skating, games, and dining with a mission to raise awareness and critical funds for area families.
Supporting ALICE Families Across the Region
Proceeds and outreach from the evening directly benefit programs supporting local ALICE households—an acronym for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed. These are working individuals and families who earn above the federal poverty line but struggle to afford necessities like housing, childcare, food, and transportation.

Event Details and How Proceeds Are Shared
Hoosier Alley is partnering with United Way to donate a portion of the evening’s revenue directly to local community programs. Attendees can participate in a variety of activities:
- 50% of Rental Proceeds Donated: Half of all proceeds from bowling lane and axe-throwing rentals will be donated directly to United Way.
- 10% of Food Sales Donated: A portion of all food and concession purchases throughout the evening will go toward the campaign.
- Free Attractions: Roller skating, bumper cars, and laser tag will be free of charge for all attendees, ensuring an accessible night out for families.
