Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard announces Annual Garden Gala fundraiser for August 28

BLOOMINGTON — Local nonprofit organization Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard has announced the return of its annual Garden Gala. The summer celebration and fundraising event is set for Friday, August 28, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the organization’s community garden located at 1100 West Allen Street.

The Garden Gala serves as a primary fundraiser to support the Hub’s year-round educational and community-building programs, which include free youth cooking and gardening workshops, community garden access, nutrition classes, and a tool-lending library. Organizers hope to build on the momentum of last year’s event, which raised $23,000 for local food access initiatives.

Food, Music, and Community Art

Attending community members can look forward to an evening packed with local food, live entertainment, and hands-on creative activities:

  • Food & Refreshments: A light dinner provided by Garnish Catering, paired with local craft beverages from Upland Brewing Company.
  • Live Music: Performance by local favorite Don’t Call Me Betty.
  • Interactive Art: Opportunities to pull custom prints with artist Alexander Landerman and the Tiny Type Cart, as well as collaborate on a community art installation with Allyn Boley.
  • Raffle & Keepsakes: $1 raffle tickets offering prizes provided by local Bloomington businesses, plus a summer photo booth hosted by photographer Garrett Ann Walters.

Supporting Local Food Security

Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard operates a free-choice food pantry alongside its educational programs to ensure equitable access to healthy, whole foods across Monroe County. The organization’s hands-on gardening and culinary workshops aim to equip community members with practical skills to grow, prepare, and preserve fresh produce.
